“Is Your Name Written in the Book of Life?” (KJV)

Introduction

Revelation shows a final courtroom scene: “the books were opened… and another book was opened, which is the book of life” (Revelation 20:12). This is not about opinions, denominations, or emotional experiences—it is about God’s record. The verdict is stated plainly: “whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire” (Revelation 20:15). So the urgent question is: Is your name written in the Lamb’s Book of Life? (Revelation 21:27).

I. The Book of Life is God’s Record of True Citizenship

It is a real heavenly record

Revelation 20:12; Philippians 4:3; Luke 10:20

It determines entrance into the eternal city

Revelation 21:27

God delivers those found written

Daniel 12:1

II. Scripture Warns a Name Can Be Blotted Out

God speaks of blotting out from His book

Exodus 32:32–33

The Psalms speak of names being blotted out

Psalm 69:28

Christ promises the overcomer will not be blotted out

Revelation 3:5

Warnings are given so believers take heed

1 Corinthians 10:12; Hebrews 3:12–14

III. Who Are Written in the Book of Life?

Those who belong to Christ—the Lamb’s redeemed people

Revelation 13:8; Revelation 21:27

Those known by the Lord as His, not merely those who say “Lord”

Matthew 7:21–23; 2 Timothy 2:19

Those whose names are written in heaven—true disciples who follow Christ

Luke 10:20; John 10:27–28

Those who remain faithful and overcome

Revelation 3:5; Revelation 2:10; Matthew 24:13

Those who continue in the faith and do not turn back

Colossians 1:23; Hebrews 3:14; John 15:6

IV. Those Not Written Face Final Exclusion and Final Judgment

Not written = cast into the lake of fire

Revelation 20:15

Not written = cannot enter the Holy City

Revelation 21:27

Judgment is real and final

John 5:28–29; Matthew 25:46; 2 Thessalonians 1:8–9

Conclusion

“Once saved always saved” as a blank check contradicts Scripture’s plain warnings: names can be blotted out (Exodus 32:33; Psalm 69:28), and only the overcomer is promised not to be blotted out (Revelation 3:5). The Bible offers assurance, but that assurance is in Christ as we continue in obedient faith (Colossians 1:23; Hebrews 3:14; Matthew 24:13). So examine yourself (2 Corinthians 13:5): Is your name written in the Lamb’s Book of Life—and are you living as one who must overcome and remain faithful? Because when the books are opened, the issue will not be what you claimed—the issue will be whether your name is written in the Book of Life (Revelation 20:15; 21:27).
